Reeling in the year [A 2024 CybelAngel Retrospective]

As another year winds down, take a walk with us down memory lane.

It was a great year, filled with the evolution of product features, worldwide events, and some unforgettable team get togethers. Throughout it, cybersecurity was never far from our minds.

We launched API Threat Detection!

API threats are a throbbing headache for many cybersecurity teams today. Again and again we heard that API vulnerabilities were a concern for global leaders.

This year we took this on board and launched API Threat Detection as an enhancement to our Asset Discovery and Monitoring module.

In a nutshell here is what this brand new solution offers:

  • Comprehensive visibility into an organization’s external API landscape, powered by machine learning-driven analysis.
  • Non-invasive scanning techniques maintain efficiency while also delivering a low false-positive rate.
  • Seamless integration into existing systems. Now, manual data entry is a thing of the past, and user-friendly connectors enable automated daily monitoring of the digital ecosystem.
  • API security testing. Now our customers can launch on-demand DAST scans on an API to uncover potential threats. We test for REST and GraphQL APIs.

With this new offering, we are providing more than just a critical defense against increasingly sophisticated cyber attackers. API Threat Detection also continuously scans the digital horizon and identifies potential vulnerabilities in real-time. Deploying it has far-reaching consequences for your cyber operations.

Our External Attack Surface Management report made an impact

Our CISO Todd Carroll shared a special analysis of the EASM threat landscape based on 192 trillion data points.

Constant unrelenting cyber attacks (and remediation strategies) gave him plenty of material.

His report shared proactive cybersecurity strategies and use cases that looked at everything from data leaks to dark web cyber threats, phishing, ransomware and a fare few data breaches. It was an artful, lessons learned look back at how hackers wreaked havoc.

Here are some of the vulnerabilities his report covered:

  1. The number of exposed databases surged from 740,000 to 1.5 million, marking a twofold increase.
  2. Cloud-based data exposure saw an 11% rise over the previous year.
  3. In 2023, CybelAngel reported that 79% of all alerts originated from sources outside the client’s IT perimeter.
  4. A mere five areas account for 75% of all identified vulnerabilities.

Keep an eye out for our 2025 annual report which will be available early next year.

We provided lots of threat intelligence on our blog

Threat notes. Threat intelligence. Gernal shakedowns on trending topics.

If it was a topic, we got stuck in to writing and sharing what happened across layers of the internet.

Whether it is the dark web you are curious about, or perhaps daily risk management strategies for CISOs, we published guide after guide in English, and several others in French.
